Susan Bloom is a lifelong resident of Logan, Gove and Scott counties. Her interest in photography started at an early age and was inspired by her father, Richard Ohmart’s, photography. She can’t remember a time when she didn’t own some type of camera. She was given her first 35mm single lens reflex camera in 1978 when she took a trip to Japan . She took basketball pictures for the Oakley Graphic and worked on the yearbook in high school. In 1987 she was the photographer for the Logan County Centennial edition of the Oakley Graphic. In 1990, after she started a family, it was very rare that you would see Bloom at an event without her camera.

In 1993 Bloom and her parents opened a graphic design business, Bloom Creative Solutions, in Oakley and it was here that her passion for designing was kindled. In the fall of 1998 Bloom returned to Fort Hays State University to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. In 2000 Bloom closed the business to concentrate on school.

In 2003 Bloom started and taught the Computer Graphics Technology program at the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland , KS . Here she taught print layout and design, Web page design, HTML, animation, typography and production skills.

Bloom’s latest passion for photography started when she purchased a digital camera to replace the SLR that her son dropped. Since that time she has taken numerous photographs from around the area and at middle school sporting events. Some of her work is displayed at Our Place, 217 Center in Oakley , KS and at The Logan County Healthcare Foundation office at 216 Center in Oakley , KS .
